Concrete Anchoring For Core Drills

Make sure to always follow safe drilling guidelines for more precise cuts and to drill with confidence.

Choose Method: There are various methods to anchoring a core drill depending on your rig and your scope of work. Common methods include anchor bolts, suction pads, and wedge anchors. Select the correct anchor based on the job you are doing and equipment you have to complete the job with.

Prep Surface: clean your surface of debris and make sure the surface is structurally sound.

Mark Drilling Points: When in doubt, scan the concrete first to find hidden obstructions like utility lines and rebar. Locate the points in relation to the designated anchoring spots on your equipment, then use a marker or tape to mark the designated drilling spots.

Drill: Using a drill bit and power drill, safely drill holes in the surface. Refer to your manual and the thickness of your surface to determine your drilling depth. The hole should be slightly smaller than the width of the anchor. Make sure to remove any concrete dust as you drill.

Insert Anchors & Secure Rig: Refer to the type of anchors you are using and follow the instructions set by the manufacturers. Position your rig base over the anchor points, aligning holes or slots with the anchors.

Tighten: Use a wrench to secure the anchors. This will create a strong connection and increase stability while operating the drill.

Test the Stability Before Drilling: Apply a little force or pressure on the rig to determine its stable. You can shake or gently push the drill and look for any significant movement.
